Three Is The Magic Number (Cometh The Hour, Cometh DC2 Part 2)

The other weekend the Cowboys and Cowgirls did indeed bring home the double from Hamburg. There was some confusion due to the way the tournament is organised, the Cowgirls finished 15th but because they were the top placed women’s team they won the women’s tournament.

For the first time ever all three cricket teams won on the same weekend. FEAR US!

The Saturday Cricket Team beat Old Bristolians Westbury 4ths by 4 wickets at home.

On a day when nobody gave a toss Uberpops lost it, that is we did not really mind who batted first. As it turned out OB elected to bat and we unleashed Budge and Garner who delivered an assured start. Budge bolwed 8 overs ,  1 maiden, 2 wickets for 23 runs  and Garner, who’s bottom was unusually quite (perhaps due to the presence of his “Special Lady”), bolwed 5.4 overs,  1 wicket for 16 runs. Roger then ambled up to the crease, handed his sweaty cap to the umpire and destroyed their middle order, clean bowling 4 batsmen for 30 runs. Not to be outdone Dutch took 3 wickets for 16 runs.  Thus the foe was all out for 146 in 37.4 overs.

On a pitch that was easily worth 200 runs this should have been an easy stroll on a beautiful summer’s day, but that is not how we do things around these parts. The first few batsmen  went very cheaply against below par bowling, only Strange chipped in significantly with a brisk 30 before being run out by a nifty manoeuvre by the opposition captain. On a promise from his “Special Lady” that if he got home before 8pm he could have sausage and mash (or play hunt the sausage or something like that involving and elongated processed meat product) Dutch decided that not only were the Cowboys not going to lose but they were going to win in double time. Setting the controls to ‘turbo biff’ Dutch hit 58 not out while Gretch manfully help his end up (I hope Dutch let him have some sausage too), it was all over in 29.3 overs.

MOM – Dutch, Cider – A streaky 4 from Gretch, full scorecard here.

The Sunday 1st Cricket Team beat Bristol Indians by 24 runs at home. Neil reports:

On a blisteringly hot day at Frenchay, joy was seen to spread amongst the Cowboys as Bolts won the toss and was able to put the Indians into the field. However, I paid for that decision as the heat, and the previous days football agm with Avon plate, caught up with him and by the time he had hit 73 runs was a gibbering wreck of a man (some may say how could we tell the difference from usual). Anyway, with Bolt’s opening partner: Justin, making a quickfire 40 in a fine opening stand, and a well-paced innings throughout meant the Cowboys put on an impressive 235 in their 40 overs.

The game seemed up for the Indians as they lost their first 3 wickets for no runs scored but a fine 102 not out from Sahil made for an exciting finish, Duncan finally taking the Indians last wicket in the 39th over, with their score on 211.

Hugs all round. Top of the league, oh yes. Unbeaten, oh yes.

Webgimp adds (because Bolts is a batsman and does not give bowling figures and because I want to carry on a running joke and …):

Just to prove that it was possible to get over 200 at Frenchay if you don’t throw your wickets away the Sunday 1sts hit 235 for the loss of 7 wickets. Justine hit 40, Bolts hit 73 and Dunc hit a brisk 28. There were 19 byes…. ouch!

With Harry and Sayed getting the first three batsmen out for ducks it should have been an easy walk on a beautiful summer’s day, but as previously mentioned that is not how we do things round these parts. When your correspondent reached the game BI were on about 110 for 7 by the time he had chewed his figure nails right down and seen Dunc and Dean smashed all over the park by S. Patel (who hit 102 not out with 5 sixes) they had got to 211 all out of 39 overs. H bowled 7 overs, 3 maidens, 21 for 1, Sayed bowled 8 overs, 2 maidens, 17 for 3 and Sadat bowled 8 overs, 43 for 3.

Flinto, standing in as wicket keeper, only let 1 bye go by and scored 15, so by my twisted logic and Gimp Math he won the game single handed with net runs of 33.

See the full scorecard.

The Sunday 2nd Cricket Team beat Carsons & Mangotsfield CC by 51 runs.

The prize for the most convincing win of the weekend goes to DCii’s brave boys. After getting mauled by over 100 runs last week this back to back fixture with The Mangots looked like a non-starter however…. REDEMPTION! DCii’s magnificent warriors hit 181 for 9 from their 40 overs with Iggy Higgins hitting 57, Grandpa Kelly hitting 21, Jeff The Fertile Plumper hitting 19 and DCii, playing a true Captain’s innings, getting a duck.

When your correspondent got to the ground the foe looked comfortable on 80 odd for 2 from 17 overs. However with catches being caught they were dismissed with easy for 129 in 26.5 overs. Ben C bowled 5.5 overs, 2 maidens, 23 for 4 wickets, Iggy Higgins bowled 5 overs, 21 for 4 wickets. One would imaging that Iggy Higgins won man  of the match (he also took 2 catches) unless he is really unpopular or smells or something. See the full scorecard.

Well done to Tinx for seeing a bit of all three games.
