Republica Invite

Dear Cowboys,

Warmest Happy New Year wishes to you all from Republica Internationale FC here in snowy Yorkshire.

In 2010 the football world looks forward to the World Cup in South Africa. But we are looking forward even more to YAWC 2010, Yorkshire’s Alternative World Cup, which will take place from Friday 6th August until Sunday 8th August.

We have found a great site for football, music and camping in the countryside just 5 milesfrom the centre of one of England’s most beautiful and historic little cities: the ancient city of York itself. We really look forward to welcoming you there and we will send details of exact location and directions in a future bulletin.

We have a lot of old friends to invite, including yourselves, so we will host

  • an 11-a-side tournament with 16 men’s (or mixed) teams.
  • a women’s 7-a-side tournament, with up to 16 women’s teams.
  • but also for the first time ever …a 7-a-side tournament with 8 men’s (or mixed) teams (These will not be the same clubs as the 11-a-side event).

Naturally we would like to invite the COWBOYS to enter the 11-a-side men’s tournament (mixed teams also welcome). This tournament starts at 5pm on the Friday and continues through Saturday and Sunday.

We hope LOS AUTONOMOS from Brazil will also enter as an 11-a-side team ( perhaps with some Cowboys to make up numbers?).

We are still looking for more local & international women’s teams “who know what it’s all about”, so please help us spread the word to our local women’s team(s).. Of course there will certainly be “World Team” possibilities for any women footballers you know who can’t bring a whole team !

We aim to make this the GREENEST alternative footy tournament ever, so our BIG TOP TENT (see picture) will be transported and powered by home-made bio-diesel and we encourage teams to travel by rail to York where possible ( if you book your rail journey months or weeks in advance it can work out quite cheap and we are happy to advise you about this. York has no airport but if you do have to fly, York is particularly well connected by railway to/from Manchester airport. Leeds/Bradford airport is another option, also Stansted. We are happy to advise individual teams about their best transport options)

Everyone who has organised a big tournament before will know about the up-front costs, so we will send more information very soon about entry fees, and about other ways of taking part in fund-raising for the event, etc. After the tournament we aim to give a lot of money to good causes (e.g the Kiptik projects in Mexico which our network has supported before , etc)

OK, we’ll love you and leave you for now,

Here’s to a great YAWC 2010,

From all your friends at Republica Internationale FC.
