The Cricket 3rd Team beat Timsbury 3rd XI by 2 wickets. It was family day on Saturday and as a large army of small children laid waist to an inflatable Jericho the 3rd Team made a right hash of defeating Timsbury. Ev staggered into view late after a few light ales the night before as Timsbury won the toss, elected to bat and were all out for 159 on the penultimate ball of their 40 overs. Garner bowled 8-3-21-1, Ev bowled 6.5-0-19-2 and Stevo bolwed 5-0-25-3. The Cowboys got off to a good start, after getting hit in the head by a fast beamer the Webgimp went on to score 56 and Stevo hit 37. Dazed and confused the Webgimp managed to run himself out in the 25 over with the score on around 120, Stevo followed him back to the pavilion shortly afterwards. This should have laid the foundations for an easy victory with the Cowboys needing less than 3 an over with 8 wickets in hand, however our middle order and Timsbury’s bowlers had other ideas. Ev having not slept the night before, bowling manfully and then waiting 25 overs to get to the crease had lost his mojo somewhere en route and was out for 1. Roger, who is normally the steadying influence in these situations, was out cheaply playing an ill conceived pull shot before Gretch, Garner and Grant managed only 10 runs between them. Rob and Justine managed to inch the Cowboys to the required target with some eccentric running. Going into the final over the scores were tide and Tinx managed to glance the ball through a close ring of fielders to bring us home. In the end there were 4 balls remaining and the Cowboys had lost 8 wickets.

The Cricket 1st Team managed to record their 1st win of the season beating Churchways by 6 wickets. Duncan, who has stepped manfully into the breach to take over the 1st Team in their time of need, inspired them taking 5 for 18 as Churchways were dismissed for 68 in 32.4 overs. Ev took 3 wickets and Bernet took 2 with Roger chipping in with a boring wicketless 8 overs, 3 maidens and 18 runs. Even chasing such a low score the Cowboys managed to put hearts in mouths as they lost 4 wickets and Justine retired hurt. In the end they got the runs in the 22nd over, with Angelo getting 22 beating the extras by 1.

The Cricket 2nd Team had no fixture.

For those that are interested the cricket injusty list for this season now reads thus:

  • Dave Littleton –  broken figure, well more completely destroyed than broken.
  • Wilko  – broken thumb.
  • Duncan – broken figure.
  • DC II – 5 stitches after being smacked in the chops fielding at square leg.
  • Grant (aka Pudsey) – several stitches  in the eye brow after getting his head in the way of a shot in nets.
  • Webgimp bloody ear after getting hit in the head by a beamer from a very fast teenager (very, very fast).
  • Justine retired hurt after being hit on the elbow.

  1. Re 1st team game. No real fault of their own, the Churchways home pitch is the worst in the league. Winning the toss was vital.
Re teenager. Just how fast was he really Rich.

    • Very, very, very fast. In truth I think he was the fastest bowler I have faced this year. But then again I don’t have to face Gary. In even more truth I had a go at it and edged it into my ear. But it did bleed a little bit, although somehow failed to break my glasses. Which is good because I managed to break a paid of glasses at a cricket match last year when I frowned too heavily after getting out with a shit shot. The frown was so powerful that it cracked the frame around the bridge.
