Alternative European Football Championship 09 in Cologne, Germany

We are organizing an alternative football tournament with teams from different European countries. The tournament will be held in Cologne/Germany this summer from the 14th to the 16th of august 2009. The event will take place at „Poller Wiesen“ located directly at the River Rhine. As you can see there are several football grounds side by side so that the event will be at a single location.

The organizer of the tournament is “Bunte Liga Koeln”, an alternative football league for free time footballers. The league consists of more than 40 teams organized on different levels. This year we celebrate the 20th birthday of the Bunte Liga Koeln e.V., and so we consider the AEM 2009 as a highlight of this anniversary. Besides football, there will be an entertaining social and cultural program around the tournament, such as concerts and events in bars and pubs in Cologne.

2003/04 the Alternative European Championship (German short “AEM”) was founded by the Zuricher FSFV, the so calles “Progressive Swiss Football Association”. The idea for the AEM was developed to provide a platform of exchange within alternative football in Europe. The first AEM was played in Zurich 2004. Teams from England, Italy, Austria, Germany and Switzerland participated the premiere of the championship, and although the number of participating countries was quite low the first AEM was a great success and we decided to give the tournament to the Bunte Liga Berlin in 2005. After Berlin in 2005 we continued in Vienna 2006, but due to problems of organization the championship in the year 2007 was canceled.

The comeback of the alternative european football in Cologne 2009 will hopefully be a renaissance followed by annual tournaments in the future. We consider this tournament in Cologne to be a great challenge and motivating. It honors us to promote the pan-European exchange of alternative football teams and leagues. For further information visit our website Contact us if your team considers taking part in the tournament. We are looking forward to getting an answer from you and your team!

Greetings from Cologne, AEM 2009-Team
