If the Cowfolk are doing it, this is where it’s at…
Copas Sandino & Lucrecia Lindo
The annual Copa Sandino (men’s) and Copa Lucrecia Lindo (women’s) footy tournaments hosted by Bristol Link with Nicaragua will be May 21st this year. Always a good craic with great latino food, and raising money to develop solidarity, education and healthcare projects in Puerto Morazán, Nicaragua.
New Cowgirls committee for 2017
It was the Cowgirls footy Annual General Meeting last night, which meant a re-elect of the committee. Isy stepped down as vice-chair after 2 years of sterling work. She is replaced by Harry. As Molly has buggered off to Leeds she was also replaced as social sec by Wendy and Ev. The rest of the committee clung firmly to their positions:
Chair: Soooooz
Vice-chair: Harry
Secretary: Sally FW
Treasurer: Ev
Social secretary: Wendy/Ev
We look forward to ‘serving’ you for another year, ooh err missus! Don’t forget there are always loads of opportunities to get more involved in the club on and off the pitch – fundraising, organising games/event/talks/tournaments, media stuff, coaching, sorting out kit, you name it! Whatever you want to do, make it happen!
Mondiali Antirazzisti 2017
A few Cowgirls are already planning on heading to this years Mondiali…
http://www.mondialiantirazzisti.org/new/?lang=en
“Mondiali Antirazzisti was born on 1997 for an idea by Progetto Ultrà-UISP Emilia Romagna in cooperation with Istoreco (Institute for Research on the Resistance) Reggio Emilia. The input was very easy: to organize a real festival with the direct involvement and mixing of realities considered conflicting. In fact, the fan groups are normally labeled as racist and the migrant communities are considered dangerous. This formula which united non competitive football, fan, music concerts, with a common life in the camping has been successful. The success of this event is determined from the fact all the people who came at Mondiali have decided to come back the year after, carrying other friends intrigued from the stories told by the participants. During the last years, Mondiali become more a more a real multicultural festival and a concrete experience of struggling against each form of discrimination.”

This is a 7 A Side Football Tournament involving teams from communities across Manchester and invited teams from across Britain and Europe. The ethos of the tournament is community and solidarity. The tournament will be played on Broadhurst Park playing fields next to FC Utd of Manchester’s new ground. FCUM are playing at home in the afternoon and there will be a special gig as part of the tournament in the FCUM bar at 9pm that night when trophies will be presented.

MANCHESTER TOURNAMENT TO UNITE THE UK’S LEFT-WING COMMUNITY FOOTBALL SCENE
On 11th of March Moston’s Broadhurst Park will host the Our City United 7-a-side football tournament. The competition will pit a number of local Manchester sides against sides from across the country. The teams are united by a commitment to values of community, equality and fairness in football.
Amongst those confirmed are Leicester’s FC Kolektivo Victoria – an autonomous, left-wing, community football club established in 2010 – and the Yorkshire St Pauli Supporters Group – a Yorkshire based fan club for supporters of St Pauli, a German side with a history of left-wing fan activism stretching back to the 1980s. According to the event’s organisers ‘the ethos of the tournament is community and solidarity.’
Broadhurst Park is the home ground of Manchester’s FC United, a community football club owned and democratically run by its members. The team was set up by disaffected Manchester United fans in the wake of Malcolm Glazer’s takeover in 2005. Like the teams participating in the tournament, FC United have a strong commitment to fan ownership and control, as well as stamping out discrimination and prejudice in the footballing community.
The event will also see a separate exhibition match between United Glasgow Women’s Team and Bristol’s Easton Cowgirls, and all those at the event are encouraged to attend the FC United of Manchester home game that afternoon. The evening’s prize giving ceremony will be hosted at the FC United Bar, and will include music from Glasgow-based folk punk band The Wakes.

The Easton Cowboys and Cowgirls is a Sports and Social Club with a membership of around 250 people and runs Men’s and Women’s Football teams, Men’s Cricket teams and Women’s Netball teams in local leagues. Social and with a social conscience, the club runs sports tournaments, arts and music events and has raised many thousands of pounds for causes in Mexico, Palestine, Malawi and the Teenage Cancer Trust and supports other voluntary groups and organisations in their development.
We have made links with and played sport with like minded groups all over the world, and have members from all areas and walks of life. We have no party political agenda but oppose all forms of oppression, sexism and racism as a guiding principle.
2017 is our 25th Anniversary and we are celebrating in style with a series of events, this is the first, which include an Alternative World Cup football tournament for Men and Women’s teams from all over Europe and South America in July. So this party is also a fundraiser for that.
So come join us to celebrate and Bring The Heat! to Easton with some brilliant music, some stupidity and a bar provided by our friends from The Plough, our HQ and spiritual home.
See you there!

The ‘Balls, Barriers and Bulldozers’ tour continues
On Tuesday 17th October Kimmer and Harry spent the evening in Dorchester with the Dorset Palestinian Israeli Peace Group to screen Balls, Barriers and Bulldozers, the film about the Cowgirls and sister team Republica’s tour to the West Bank in 2014. It was a brilliant evening with 80+ people turning out. There was a really positive Q&A after with lots of ideas of how we can continue to spread the stories and raise awareness of the what’s happening in Palestine. Over £100 was raised selling merchandise from the tour all of which will go straight to Hebron International Resource Network to help the most poor and vulnerable Palestinians in and around Hebron.
Then on the 25th October our wonderful Soooooz travelled to Mere for ‘One World Week’ to show the film and give a talk about our activities in support of Palestinians, entitled ‘Football in the Olive Grove’.
A big well done to all involved for tirelessly keeping the message going!
Cowgirls do Tough Mudder for Palestine girls school
A group of cowgirls footballers are taking on the hardcore Tough Mudder challenge to raise money for Hebron International Resource Network (HIRN), to complete construction of a secondary school for girls in Zif, South East Hebron. The school has been started but further funds are needed to build two final caravans so that girls are able to continue their education beyond primary level.
Due to injury the team have halved, but the remaining 5 (Sensi, Ange, Evelyn, Lizzie and her mate Zoe) are training hard and in good spirits 🙂 and would appreciate all the encouragement they can get.
They’ve already raised £820 of their £1000 target with just under a week to go, so let’s help them get there! Donate here if you can and please share the link:
