This is a 7 A Side Football Tournament involving teams from communities across Manchester and invited teams from across Britain and Europe. The ethos of the tournament is community and solidarity. The tournament will be played on Broadhurst Park playing fields next to FC Utd of Manchester’s new ground. FCUM are playing at home in the afternoon and there will be a special gig as part of the tournament in the FCUM bar at 9pm that night when trophies will be presented.

MANCHESTER TOURNAMENT TO UNITE THE UK’S LEFT-WING COMMUNITY FOOTBALL SCENE
On 11th of March Moston’s Broadhurst Park will host the Our City United 7-a-side football tournament. The competition will pit a number of local Manchester sides against sides from across the country. The teams are united by a commitment to values of community, equality and fairness in football.
Amongst those confirmed are Leicester’s FC Kolektivo Victoria – an autonomous, left-wing, community football club established in 2010 – and the Yorkshire St Pauli Supporters Group – a Yorkshire based fan club for supporters of St Pauli, a German side with a history of left-wing fan activism stretching back to the 1980s. According to the event’s organisers ‘the ethos of the tournament is community and solidarity.’
Broadhurst Park is the home ground of Manchester’s FC United, a community football club owned and democratically run by its members. The team was set up by disaffected Manchester United fans in the wake of Malcolm Glazer’s takeover in 2005. Like the teams participating in the tournament, FC United have a strong commitment to fan ownership and control, as well as stamping out discrimination and prejudice in the footballing community.
The event will also see a separate exhibition match between United Glasgow Women’s Team and Bristol’s Easton Cowgirls, and all those at the event are encouraged to attend the FC United of Manchester home game that afternoon. The evening’s prize giving ceremony will be hosted at the FC United Bar, and will include music from Glasgow-based folk punk band The Wakes.
